The tram climbs all the way up 8,516 feet which is the top of one of the peaks of San Jacinto Mountain but not the top of the tallest peak which is more than 10,000 feet in altitude. However, by skipping the long lines at the ticket counter, you're bound to save yourself much more than $2 worth of precious vacation time. The tram charges $2 more per ticket when you purchase tickets for the tramway online. Palm Springs tram tickets for adults are about $30 round-trip and kids under 11 are $18. You can buy tickets just before boarding the tram or buy tickets online. However, there are many reasons to spend more time at the top and will get into those. That means that your total time commitment could be as little as one hour if you just wanted to pop up to the mountain station and come back down, including the time it might take to wait for a tram, and for people to get on and off. It’s generally about a ten minute ride from the valley station at the bottom all the way to the top but it can take as long as fifteen minutes. Hang a right and drive about 3 miles on Tram Road and you'll hit the parking lots. Cars leave approximately every 30 minutes. Temperatures could change up to 40 degrees from the bottom to the top of the summit. It is a breath taking ride, as there are gorgeous flowers, pine trees covered in snow and awe-inspiring views. On the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, visitors can ascend more than 8,000 feet up the mountain. The park is open daily throughout the summer and on weekends during the winter. Inside the park, there is a five-story fort specifically designed for small children. There are wave pools, waterslides and rapids that will be sure to thrill guests. It can get hot in Palm Springs, so tourists can cool off in the fun and exciting water park called Knott's Soak City. With the exception of holidays, both museums are open daily. Exhibits consist of a genuine Sherman tank, various movies and a Vietnam veteran's wall. This museum is dedicated to all military veterans who fought in combat. The General Patton Memorial Museum is situated east of Palm Springs. World War II pilots give lectures on scheduled weekends, and flight exhibitions also take place on various weekends throughout the year. The Palm Springs Air Museum is home to fully functional aircraft showcased in impressive hangers. The museums dedicated to the Military are two museums in Palm Springs specifically devoted to our nation's military, with the main emphasis being on World War II. The attraction is open daily however, if the summer heat gets too intense, it might close some afternoons during the summer. There is also an African section that includes zebras and cheetahs. Some animals that are highlighted include wolves, eagles and bighorn sheep, which are seen locally. The Living Desert, located east of the city, is a biological preserve that consists of more than 1,000 acres that includes 450 animals from various species. Situated only two hours from Los Angeles, Palm Springs has become a premiere tourist destination as there are so many things to do in the scenic town.
